Ms. Shani Bauldrick - Class of 1992 (Athletics)
On February 5, 1992, The Chicago Tribune named Lisle’s Shani Bauldrick their Athlete of the Week after scoring 56 points and amassing 32 rebounds in two games. It was a brief glimpse into her ability and significance for Lisle High School’s Girls Basketball program. In her time at Lisle, Shani was a four year participant in both basketball and track. Shani’s success and leadership came not only from the performance of her skills but also from her ability to work hard, stay positive, and believe in herself as well as her teammates. This commitment to “doing it right” led to a renaissance of the Lisle girls’ basketball program, demonstrating that success was indeed attainable and improvement provided a foundation for that success. Her track success including a State medal in the long jump also demonstrated not only her athleticism and commitment to excellence, but her ability to meet the challenge of high expectations. This provided a great example for other track athletes to emulate.
Besides her tremendous basketball and track career at Lisle, Shani was a member of the prestigious Math Team and the Key Club all four years. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and was Homecoming Queen her senior year. She was awarded the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Award by the Carlin Nalley Foundation. The Zaharias Award is given to outstanding female senior athletes at Lisle High School. After leaving Lisle, Shani went on to a very successful basketball career at Hampton University where she is a member of the Lady Pirate 1,000 point club, scoring 1,107 points in her four year career. Shani is also a member of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, which was founded in 1908 as the first intercollegiate historically African American sorority that partners with local communities, regional and national organizations to promote social change that results in equality and equity for all citizens.
